System features Europe’s largest FibreFlow drum pulper and targets 1,650 t/d capacity for recycled packaging papers.
DS Smith has started up a new stock preparation line and reject treatment system at its mill in Porcari, Italy, including Europe’s largest FibreFlow drum pulper, according to the technology supplier Andritz.
The line is designed for a capacity of 1,650 t/d and processes a wide range of recovered paper grades. The FibreFlow drum pulper enables gentle pulping combined with efficient removal of coarse contaminants. The system includes screens and LC-cleaners to ensure high stock quality and low energy consumption under varying raw material conditions. The reject treatment system comprises a shredder and reject compactors for processing rejects from pulping and coarse screening.
The production system serves the fast-moving consumer goods and e-commerce sectors, producing packaging papers from 100% recycled fiber.
The Andritz scope of supply covered basic and detail engineering, installation supervision, commissioning, and operator training. The drum pulper is the 300th FibreFlow unit delivered by Andritz worldwide. No order value was disclosed.
