Global sustainable packaging company, Sonoco, has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross and the International Red Crescent to aid humanitarian relief efforts in Turkey following the devastating earthquakes and aftershocks which hit Turkey and Syria on 6 February 2023.
“Sonoco has operations and employees in Turkey, and we believe we have an obligation to contribute to help those who are struggling to recover from this traumatic disaster,” said Howard Coker, president and CEO. “The work by the Red Cross and the Red Crescent is vital to helping many the people of the region obtain basic necessities.”
“Red Cross and Red Crescent responders are working around the clock providing lifesaving aid on the ground in Turkey and Syria. This generous gift from Sonoco will support global Red Cross and Red Crescent teams providing humanitarian relief such as food, water, hygiene supplies, emergency shelter, and medical care,” said Rod Tolbert, CEO of the American Red Cross of South Carolina. “Partners like Sonoco help the American Red Cross to support the global Red Cross network by mobilising people and resources to help meet the most urgent needs on the ground.”
