Adhesive tape is one of the most common ways to close cardboard packaging. It is simple, widely available and familiar. But in production environments and internal logistics, where the same packaging may need to be opened and closed several times, constantly applying and removing tape can create unnecessary work.
Products often pass through multiple stages before reaching their destination. Components may be packed for internal transport, opened for inspection or further processing and then closed again for the next step. Every time adhesive tape is used, additional material and handling are required.
Repeated removal of tape can also damage the cardboard surface. Adhesive residues, torn paper layers and damaged areas can gradually affect the condition of the packaging, making repeated use more difficult. These challenges are particularly relevant when companies want to keep corrugated packaging in circulation for multiple cycles. Similar challenges were also highlighted in our previous article on reusable packaging and repeated opening and closing.
EKS 1601.0: Open, close and reuse
The EKS 1601.0 box clip provides a detachable locking solution for corrugated cardboard packaging. Instead of applying new adhesive tape whenever a package needs to be closed again, the clip allows packaging to be securely opened and reclosed.
The EKS 1601.0 is designed to connect several layers of corrugated cardboard and can be used for locking complex and large-scale packaging. It is suitable for cardboard boxes with wall thicknesses of up to 16.5 mm.
This makes the closure particularly relevant for internal transport and multi-stage production processes where packaging is handled repeatedly.
The practical benefits include:
- Less adhesive tape: Repeated closing does not require another layer of tape.
- Simplified handling: Packaging can be opened and securely closed again during different process stages.
- Reduced carton damage: Avoiding repeated taping and removal helps protect the cardboard surface.
- More reuse: Existing corrugated packaging can be used across multiple handling stages.
- Material separation: The detachable connection facilitates type-specific separation of packaging materials.
The EKS 1601.0 itself is also 100% recyclable and is available in different material variants, including 100% PP recycled material (PCR) and E-K-S Bioline Sugar cane®.
For companies looking to make internal packaging processes more efficient and reduce their reliance on adhesive tape, changing the closure can be a relatively small adjustment with a practical impact.
