Krefeld – The CorrBox Solution evo from Baumer hhs in operation at SAF Kartonagen.
Less adhesive, greater stability and a system that has been running for months without any servicing. Sound like wishful thinking? SAF Kartonagen in Löhne, Germany, proves that cost-efficient manufacturing and precision adhesive application can go hand-in-hand with the new CorrBox Solution evo from Baumer hhs. A case study.
Family-run business with a vision
A visitor to the production facilities at SAF Kartonagen in Löhne, Germany, senses right away that the people here are not just processing corrugated board; they are planning for the future. Since its establishment in 1997, the company has grown from a classical corrugated converter into a comprehensive packaging partner. Folding cartons, moving boxes, die cut packaging: products range from compact 100 x 100 mm cartons to extra-large formats up to 1,600 x 1,200 x 2,000 mm.
The family’s next generation founded partner company WidenBOX in 2020 and since then has developed new lines of business. Today the product portfolio includes boxes with multiple glued joints, auto lock boxes and die cut packaging with sophisticated print designs. Together, SAF and WidenBOX turn out over 57 million packaging units a year.
“At WidenBOX, we have been working with hhs technology for years. We currently have three systems in operation: one hot melt and two cold glue machines for our folder gluers. So we followed the development of the CorrBox Solution very closely. As a long-term hhs partner, we soon realized that we would also be installing this new equipment at our partner facility, SAF Kartonagen”, says Muhammed Saf, CEO WidenBOX GmbH
Growth depends on the right equipment. In keeping with this principle, SAF invested in a new Weipong Venus 1230 FFG-B in 2024, a flexo folder gluer with four printing units, a drying unit and rotary die-cutter – the very system on which the CorrBox Solution evo from Baumer hhs has been running since November 2025.
CorrBox Solution evo: What’s it all about?
The CorrBox Solution evo is the latest member of the Baumer hhs CorrBox Solution family. The idea behind it can be summarised in one sentence: cost efficiency combined with precision adhesive application and continuous monitoring – three things that make a world of difference in corrugated converting.
The heart of the system is the PX 1000 multiple head. It ensures precise and uniform adhesive application. That sounds simple, but is far from it: Precision gluing means less machine contamination, less time for clean-up and more productive hours per shift.
“We haven’t had to service this unit once since it was installed. It runs stably, applies glue cleanly and requires very minimal clean-up. It’s exactly what we were hoping for.”
Muhammed Saf, CEO WidenBOX GmbH
The CorrBox Solution evo is designed specifically for standardised production environments. With proven components and a consistent controller architecture, it can be seamlessly integrated into existing processes. No tedious retrofitting, no extensive training.
Blank guide: as unique as the product portfolio
Not every corrugated converter produces the same products. They can range from simple brown shipping boxes to printed sales packaging in a variety of formats. Baumer hhs takes this into account by offering different blank guides that hold the corrugated board blanks in precise position during gluing.
SAF selected the evo blank guide. It provides a reliable foundation for gluing and monitoring, making it a perfect match for the SAF product mix, which consists primarily of unprinted shipping boxes. Customers with more extensive needs, such as variable gluing from top or bottom (Inverto), will also find the right solution in Baumer hhs’s portfolio.
Monitoring adhesive application: Trust is good, sensor technology is better
Quality means more than inspecting the final product. This is where the CorrBox Solution evo’s quality control equipment comes in. Two sensor systems are available to choose from with identical dimensions and resolutions. The difference lies in their detection methods.
The CS 1000 is ideal for unprinted corrugated boxes with a white or brown surface. In combination with coloured adhesives and its variable light source, it reliably detects glue tracks with minimal cost and effort. It was the most economical choice for SAF, since the company produces mainly brown shipping boxes. A practical feature: On brown surfaces, even uncoloured adhesives can be monitored flawlessly.
The PGD 1000 comes into play when colour is involved. It reliably detects glue tracks on printed surfaces without needing optical brighteners or coloured adhesives. Have to deal with changing print images or complex designs? No problem,
because the two sensors have identical dimensions and can easily be exchanged or even combined, giving users maximum flexibility and protecting their investment long-term.
“Continuous adhesive monitoring was a critical factor for us. We didn’t have this capability before. Now we can see in real time on the screen what’s happening at the point of application.”
Muhammed Saf, CEO WidenBOX GmbH
Glue Save: less adhesive, greater stability
This may sound like a contradiction at first: stronger glued joints with less adhesive? The Glue Save function makes it possible. The principle: A continuous bead of glue is divided into segments, a method referred to in the industry as “stitching”. Instead of a continuous line of glue, short, precise segments are applied.
The savings are considerable: Adhesive can be reduced by up to 50 percent in some cases without compromising the integrity of glued joints. Independent tests conducted by the PTS (research and service institute of the German paper industry) even confirm an increase in the ECT value (determined in the edge crush test) along glued edges. Less material, greater performance.
A single click at the controller is all it takes to activate the Glue Save function. And because the PX 1000 multiple head has a durable, heavy-duty power unit, users don’t have to be concerned that the more frequent operating cycles required for stitching will cause premature wear.
Operation: large display, clear view
Ease of operation determines the value of a system. The CorrBox Solution evo has a generously sized 15.6 inch monitor that displays live images for adhesive monitoring. Navigation is based on a clear menu layout. Machine operators can see the status of the process at a glance and react immediately to any deviations.
“Our operators got used to the large screen in no time. The menu structure is intuitive; you don’t need a user manual.”

Two pump types are available for supplying the adhesive: The KFE KP9 (familiar from the CorrBox Solution pro) with its proven track record in literally thousands of customer systems, and the more compact KFE KP6 with its lower feed volume, which performs optimally up to an adhesive viscosity of 3,000 mPa·s. SAF has been using the KFE KP6 since installation without any interruptions.
Conclusion: proven in practice from day one
The system in operation at SAF Kartonagen since November 2025 speaks for itself: maximum availability, no servicing since its problem-free installation, clean adhesive application even after extended periods in operation. The CorrBox Solution evo delivered excellent results from the very first day.
For SAF Kartonagen and WidenBOX, the investment is part of a coherent strategy: think ahead, implement economically sound solutions, be open to new technologies. The CorrBox Solution evo fits right in with this philosophy. Proven standards, simple operation, high reliability in production and a secure long-term investment.
Incidentally, anyone who would like to see the facility for themselves is more than welcome at SAF. The family-run company gladly opens its doors to visitors
