Oji India Packaging, a subsidiary of Japan’s Oji Group, has officially inaugurated its new corrugated packaging plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, marking its fifth and largest unit in India.
The facility, spanning 43,000 square metres, is now the second-biggest corrugated plant in South Asia, underlining Oji’s long-term commitment to India’s fast-growing packaging industry.
The automated plant boasts an annual production capacity of 100 million square metres of corrugated boxes and packaging accessories.
Currently employing more than 100 people, Oji plans to expand its workforce to 300 in the coming years, reinforcing its role in local job creation and skill development.
Designed to cater to diverse sectors including FMCG, automotive, textiles, and e-commerce, the Sri City plant specializes in heavy-duty corrugated solutions that improve supply chain efficiency and sustainability.
“From raw material to final dispatch, every stage reflects our commitment to quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction,” said a company spokesperson.
Hiroyuki Isono, President and Group CEO of Oji Holdings Corporation emphasized India’s importance in Oji’s global growth strategy.
“The Sri City plant is not only a comprehensive solution for South India’s packaging needs but also a reflection of our global mission, sustainability, innovation, and value creation for customers,” he stated, acknowledging Sri City’s infrastructure and government support in enabling the project.
Oji’s expansion arrives at a time when India’s corrugated packaging sector is experiencing robust growth, driven by e-commerce penetration, rising exports, and sustainability mandates.
According to the Indian Corrugated Case Manufacturers’ Association (ICCMA), the industry is growing at 12–15% annually, with increasing adoption of lightweight and recyclable packaging solutions.
Several global and domestic players are also ramping up investments. In 2024, WestRock India expanded its kraft paper and corrugated capacity in Gujarat to meet demand from online retailers and FMCG companies.
Meanwhile, Klingele Paper & Packaging Group of Germany announced a strategic partnership with Indian converters to strengthen its footprint in South Asia.
On the domestic front, ITC’s Packaging & Printing Business continues to scale its sustainable offerings, including corrugated solutions integrated with paperboard production.
Similarly, Mondi is piloting paper-based e-commerce packaging formats in India to replace plastic mailers.
Strengthening the industrial ecosystem
The Sri City facility not only boosts Oji India’s production capacity but also enhances the region’s industrial ecosystem, providing local manufacturers with faster, more reliable, and sustainable packaging solutions.
With five plants across Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab, and now Andhra Pradesh, Oji India has established itself as a major force in corrugated packaging, further embedding India into Oji Group’s global growth map.
