Sutherland Packaging, a third-generation corrugated packaging and display manufacturer based in New Jersey, has expanded its digital capabilities with the HP PageWide C550 Press. Installed in March 2023, the press is now a core driver of Sutherland’s speed-to-market strategy, particularly in the high-graphic packaging and retail display segment.
With decades of experience in corrugated graphics, Sutherland saw the opportunity to leap beyond traditional print methods. The HP PageWide C550 press delivers faster lead times, consistent high-resolution output, and a more sustainable print process—essential traits for customers facing tight retailer deadlines and demanding brand standards.
Sutherland has also adopted HP’s PrintOS platform to monitor real-time performance, optimize workflows, and bring new transparency to its production floor. This combination of digital hardware and cloud-connected intelligence allows Sutherland to adapt quickly and scale efficiently—supporting both national brands and trade customers.
“HP’s C550 press opened the door to bigger jobs, faster turns, and the kind of quality that allows us to compete head-to-head with litho while staying nimble,” said Jake Sutherland, Chief Executive Officer at Sutherland Packaging. “Our clients count on speed, flexibility, and graphics that pop—and this press delivers all three.”
Beyond its production gains, the move to high-speed digital is helping Sutherland grow its customer base—especially among brands looking to escape the limits of litho labels. The company is now actively expanding into high-growth segments and strengthening its presence across North America.
Sustainability also played a key role in Sutherland’s investment. The C550’s water-based inks and waste-reducing workflow support the company’s long-term environmental goals while giving clients a cleaner print option without sacrificing performance.
“Sutherland Packaging’s installation reflects a wider shift toward sustainable, high-speed digital print for corrugated packaging,” said Mark Dempsey, WW GTM Director, HP PageWide Industrial Packaging. “Their adoption of PrintOS and their bold approach to growth show how digital print can power the next generation of corrugated leaders.”
Looking ahead, Sutherland remains focused on throughput, system optimization, and pushing the C550’s performance to its limits. With speed, quality, and agility as its cornerstones, the company is redefining what high-graphic corrugated can be.
