Bernhard Reisser, industry manager at Marbach: “Which of the two technologies crease-plate-die|+ or crease-plate-die|rc should be used, is decided simply by the design of the blank to be die-cut.”
Thus, crease-plate-die|+ is always used when packaging has to be produced in “hinge lid” or “bevel edge” design. With this technology, creasing is performed with a defined gauge block. This means that the make-ready can be carried out with extreme precision and creasing is very consistent. This increases the quality of the packaging blanks and the speeds at which they can be packed.
The crease-plate-die|rc, on the other hand, is a solution specifically for cigarette packaging in round corner design. Reisser continues: “The unique effect of round corner packaging is created by the fact that several creases are placed very close together when the packaging is cut. In terms of appearance, this looks impressive and outstanding in the finished packaging. However, these closely spaced creases also place high technical demands on the tool. For example, round corner creases act on the paperboard with totally different forces than standard creases. In order to control these, the make-ready of the cross creases can be decoupled from the round corner creases of the crease-plate-die. The results are high-quality blanks that achieve the creasing specifications given by the end customer. Also worth noting: due to a wide range of adjustment options on the creasing unit, this also applies to changing board materials and variations in board quality.”
