Using a minimum of 50% less plastic, the change is estimated to save 140 tonnes of plastic annually**.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trayless products are available in all stores across the UK and online, helping to reduce the amount of single-use plastic customers have to dispose of at home. The change affects five products in total, including all&nbsp;<em>by<\/em>&nbsp;Sainsbury\u2019s whole chickens ranging from extra small to extra-large sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film packaging can still be recycled at one of Sainsbury\u2019s front-of-store&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.about.sainsburys.co.uk\/news\/latest-news\/2021\/24-06-2021-sainsburys-rolls-out-largest-flexible-plastic-packaging-recycling-system\">flexible plastics recycling points<\/a>&nbsp;(available in all Sainsbury\u2019s UK supermarkets).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move is the latest in a string of plastic reductions as part of the retailer\u2019s ongoing commitment to halve its use of own brand plastic packaging by 2025. Last month, the retailer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.about.sainsburys.co.uk\/news\/latest-news\/2022\/08-12-2022-sainsburys-ramps-up-removal-of-single-use-plastic-lids\">removed single-use plastic lids&nbsp;<\/a>from its own brand dip pots, including household favourites such as guacamole, tzatziki and sour cream and chive dip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of its wider sustainability commitments, Sainsbury\u2019s is also dedicated to protecting animal welfare across its supply chains. In March, Sainsbury\u2019s made improvements to its chicken welfare standards, by moving all its fresh and frozen own brand by Sainsbury\u2019s chicken to a lower stocking density.
