It incorporates low energy consumption chip technology for optimized power use and long read range capabilities, compared to standard Bluetooth® wireless technology-enabled chips that are not optimized for ultra-low power use.

Active Bluetooth® Low Energy labels offer continuous broadcasting, providing live location data, tamper alerts and condition monitoring without the need for manual intervention or specialized scanning infrastructure. By adopting this embedded technology, Avery Dennison is bringing to market one of the first printable intelligent labels of its kind to improve visibility in a host of supply chain scenarios.

Engineered to meet industry requirements and standards, the AD Visi product line enhances end-to-end traceability for high-value or sensitive goods, while offering broader applications for sectors needing greater supply chain visibility. The initial product offering, available for order in late 2026, comprises two labels leveraging InPlay’s NanoBeacon™ chip technology, engineered for ultra-low power consumption and long-range performance:

AD Visi Way — Real-Time Location System (RTLS) tracking, providing continuous location data throughout the supply chain journey

AD Visi Secure — RTLS tracking with an integrated tamper-evidence loop, delivering time and location-stamped responsibility identification for high-value goods

Both products are powered by thin, non-lithium printed batteries and are wireless activated. At less than 1 mm thickness with a flexible construction, they are designed for straightforward application across parcels, pallets and returnable transport items (RTIs). The labels operate across a temperature range of -30°C to +60°C and offer a reading distance of up to 100 meters. A wider product suite is in development and expected to launch in early 2027.

Avery Dennison’s ‘right tool for the right job’ approach is designed to empower clients to choose the right technology based on their specific needs from a cost, data granularity and digital supply chain maturity perspective. In addition to Active Bluetooth® Low Energy, the portfolio includes Passive Bluetooth® Low Energy, a large-scale, cost-effective solution for long-term deployments. The approach also covers UHF RFID, a foundational, cost-effective technology for mass-scale inventory and item-level supply chain visibility.

Jason Wu, co-founder and CEO of InPlay, says: “There is significant demand for real-time, long-range visibility and security for critical, high-value assets, which makes our partnership with Avery Dennison so important. We are delighted to work with a world leading intelligent label innovator, unlocking item-level tracking for scalable, cost-effective Active Bluetooth® Low Energy deployment.”

Mathieu De Backer, vice president, Intelligent Labels Innovation at Avery Dennison, adds: “We are excited to further expand our portfolio of digital ID technologies. This important development provides a strategic, flexible solution to help future-proof supply chains. By offering a comprehensive range of intelligent labels capable of real-time condition monitoring, precise location tracking and data logging — all using less materials than traditional trackers — clients can benefit from more advanced, dependable and robust supply chains.”

Avery Dennison (NYSE: AVY), a global leader in materials science and digital identification solutions, today announces the AD Visi product line, a new range of Active Bluetooth® Low Energy labels designed to deliver advanced tracking for time critical and high-value shipments across global supply chains.
