The launch took place at the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) Technical Seminar 2025 in Rome, held from 8 to 10 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The corrPRESS iB17 delivers printing speeds of up to 8,000m\u00b2 per hour, equivalent to 15 million square metres annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It produces offset-quality output directly onto corrugated boards up to 1.7m wide, using water-based inks and primer suitable for indirect food contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The press is intended for short-to-medium-length production runs and is equipped with automation features that reduce operator requirements and turnaround times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It builds on Canon&#8217;s experience in commercial digital printing, following a concept presentation at drupa 2024, the world&#8217;s leading trade show for print technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system addresses the needs of corrugated converters who require shorter runs, faster turnaround times and cost efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It supports print runs of up to 20,000m\u00b2 and incorporates automated printhead cleaning, quality control and print-on-demand capabilities to limit waste and remove the need for plates or chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The press includes Canon\u2019s proprietary 1200 dpi piezo printheads and water-based pigment inks, initially available in CMYK and later expanding to OVG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It produces offset-like quality in post-print applications on coated and uncoated boards and uses an advanced spot primer for improved colour precision and ink adhesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ink is applied immediately after priming without intermediate drying, ensuring production reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The corrPRESS iB17 features Canon\u2019s optimised drying technology designed to reduce energy use and prevent board distortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can handle boards up to 1.7m wide, 1.3m long, and between 1mm and 8mm thick, operating at a linear speed of 80m\/min.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canon has developed all principal components of the system \u2014 including printheads, inks, and drying units \u2014 to ensure consistent integration and performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Peter Wolff<\/strong>, chief marketing officer and senior vice-president at Canon production printing, stated: \u201cThe announcement of the Canon corrPRESS iB17 marks a pivotal milestone in Canon\u2019s journey to becoming a key player in the packaging industry and reflects our deep commitment to supporting corrugated converters as they navigate today\u2019s unprecedented challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy combining proven proprietary inkjet technology with an industrial board transport system, we have developed an innovative press that delivers offset-quality prints with outstanding productivity and digital flexibility, all developed for indirect food contact applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDesigned for seamless integration into existing production environments, the highly automated corrPRESS iB17 extends the economic benefits of digital printing far beyond traditional short-run applications.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canon has unveiled the corrPRESS iB17, an industrial inkjet press designed for high-volume corrugated packaging production.
