Berry Global\u2019s European flexible films business has launched a new version of its high performance, patented NorDiVent\u00ae form-fill-seal (FFS) film<\/a> for powdered products that now incorporates up to 50% recycled plastic content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new film meets customer and consumer demand for products with increased recycled content as part of Berry\u2019s 2025 sustainability strategy and its commitment to devise solutions to meet and exceed customers\u2019 sustainability goals. Equally significant, the incorporation of the recycled material has been achieved while maintaining the many user benefits of NorDiVent\u00ae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NorDiVent\u2019s\u00ae durable and patented construction delivers a consistently reliable performance. The film is fully waterproof and ensures air is let out in a dust-free manner, offering effective moisture protection for products that need to be kept dry and enabling sacks to be stored outdoors. Its high tear resistance provides further product protection and avoids spillages and product waste throughout the supply chain. A variety of options, including anti-static, enable the film to cope with the most challenging applications and products. The quality of the film also allows printing in up to 8 colors to create impactful branding and maximize on-shelf presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNorDiVent\u00ae provides a reliable, long-term dust-free and moisture-free solution for the filling and packing of all types of powdered products, such as chemicals and construction materials,\u201d said Frank Heseding, Sales Director, Berry Global.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These benefits have now been further enhanced by the introduction of Berry\u2019s unique range of Sustane\u00ae Premium Recycled Polymers<\/a> at levels of up to 50%. The Sustane\u00ae range includes polymers produced from recycled plastic \u2013 both post-consumer and pre-consumer. A blend of both variants is available allowing for customization that aligns with customers\u2019 specific requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur ability to include recycled content into NorDiVent\u00ae <\/a>is a demonstration of both our technical skills and our determination to deliver solutions that meet our customers\u2019 needs in terms of quality, reliability, and sustainability. This is important,\u201d explained Heseding, \u201cas it is essential that sustainability goals are advanced, but not at the expense of a sack\u2019s overall purpose, especially since the performance of a sack throughout the supply chain can have a marked effect on its environmental impact.\u201d\u201cThis can play a major role in avoiding product loss and wastage. This has been highlighted in recent research undertaken by the IFEU-Institut f\u00fcr Energie- und Umweltforschung Heidelberg (ifeu).\u201d said Heseding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ifeu project carried out a comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of alternative packaging systems for building materials and industrial raw materials. The main comparisons were between different types of paper sacks and FFS polyethylene sacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe research found that product losses along the value chain have a significant influence on the environment. When the FFS PE sacks save 0.8 % of cement in the value chain compared to the paper sack, the climate change results are in the favour of PE FFS sacks. For Titanium Dioxide this breakeven is even lower at 0.2 %.
